Mayoral Salute

Sunday - March 13

Bruce asked for everyone's attention then said, "Last summer, I received an email of a guy fishing. What made it better, was I received the same email a couple of days later from our Mayor, Al, suggesting that surely someone on Palo Verde street could improve on this idea."

"The picture in the email was of a guy fishing, and he had a drink holder sitting beside him. The wheel started turning, and idea was hatched on how to improve on the drink holder." LOL

"First, let me present our Mayor with his favorite beer and the First Lady with a glass with palm trees on it, fitting for Palm Creek." :-)

"Next, I'll pour a fine white wine for our First Lady." Mary already had a glass going, but she was a good sport and accepted but asked for a just a little. As Bruce poured, Mary said "that's enough ... whoa, that's enough" ... and finally grabbed the bottle to stop Bruce from continuing to pour until the glass was almost full! LOL

As the Mayor toasted his Subjects, preparations continued for the drink holder unbeknownst to Al and Mary.

The picture Bruce received was of a plumber's helper tuck in the ground beside the fisherman with a beer in it. Now, we can't have our Mayor and First Lady sticking things in the ground, so a stand was built out of PVC! Much better!

The stands have a centerpiece to hold the ...

matching plumber's helpers! One for each of our royalty. They remembered the email sent out last year! Mary reminded Al that they have to be more careful what they send around! ROFL

Bruce carefully placed the Mayor's plumber's helpers in their stands.

The neat thing about these is, they can be set on a slope and the swiveling center allows the drink holder to stay upright! Pretty cool, huh?!

After seeing how easily they worked, Mary and Al practiced and succeeded! Mary's holder was turned inward to hold her wine glass, while Al's very nicely held his beer!

Both drinks were placed in their holders for a second presentation. This gift was compliments of Dave & Linda Hardy.

Bruce demonstrated how to disassemble the stands for storage. Piece of cake!

Tissue paper and more tissue paper. Mary stuffed it in her shirt and anywhere else she could think of! LOL

Hmmm, a sound board. Wonder what that's for?!

A gavel for Honorable Al Leuhmann, Mayor of Palo Verde! ROFL

"This meeting is now adjourned," he said! Ha ha, NOT!

Our group has grown to a considerable size, and the Subjects enjoyed the beautiful afternoon and humor.

This was one party that lasted until way after dark ...

as all visited and had a great time at the End-of-the-Season 2011 party.

Hmm, does that say ... Slow! Grandparents at Play or ... Slow Grandparents at Play? ;=)
