For about an hour this morning while we were getting ready to go to
Seaside, the wind kicked up. So we took our warm coats and drove
north. The wind died right back down, and we had a wonderful day for
perusing all that little town has to offer. The assistant at the
Chamber of Commerce, where we stopped to collect a map and ask soem
directions to the main street, told us there was going to be a car show in
town this weekend and Broadway, the main drag to the beach, was closed off.
The fun part of that is, we had to find parking for a wide-ass truck on
narrow streets full of other vehicles and people! Oh yea! But
our trustworthy pilot found such a spot, parked the truck and off we went to
the beach.
The
statue of Lewis and Clark greets visitors at the
turnaround.

As one would imagine, there were people everywhere. What wasn't
present that we hoped to see were kites. Only two flew far north on
the beach. Bummer! We walked along the Promenade and up Broadway
checking out cars, cars and more cars. Plenty of old geezers, smiling
and chatting as they checked out old rides. Our first tour of the cars
took us up Broadway about half way and north on a side street to look at
more cars.
1955, '56 & '57 Chevs lined up and in mint condition.

Wonder how this car would do today in keeping up with the
bad guys. ;=)

This is a predecessor to our son's '54 Willys.

Then it was down to the beach. While Geri headed for swings
dangling halfway between the Promenade and the beach, Bruce waited.
What could be better than swinging on a beach and taking in the smell of the
sea air on a nice day, Geri wondered? Super feeling! The
temperature was about 63 with a few streaks of sun peaking through the
morning clouds that often hang on the ocean. It was wonderful to be
alive and enjoying the day, she thought. Just what the doctor ordered.
A little boy and his parents were at the swings, too, and wound up walking
out to the surf with Geri. Fun to have the little 2-1/2-year-old
running, crashing and playing in the sand beside her. That family is
from Federal Way, we would later learn, not too far from our home.
They come down for the car show every year and swear it's the best one.
Whodathunk Geri would get down on her knees and stabilize
her camera on a concrete wall to take a picture of a freakin' seagull?!

Before long, Geri walked back up to where Bruce was patiently waiting. We had drunch (dinner and lunch) at Pigs and Pancakes before driving back
to Cannon Beach to see what kind of a shot we could get of Haystack rock.
How many pictures do you suppose there are of a rock named Haystack?
Probably more than we can imagine. Still, we took this of one of the
haystack rocks in Oregon and this one has rocks called the pinnacles beside
it. ;=) There's also a lighthouse called Terrible Tilly way off in the
background. Click

name.

What makes this photo opp unique is that to the left of the photographer,
Geri, a wedding was taking place. How cool! The wedding had
been, obviously, planned for the outgoing tide as the wedding party was
right at the edge of the surf. Good idea, huh?

Awesome setting, pleasant weather and the happiness of the event just
added to a wonderful day at the ocean.
