Wouldn't you know that as we were leaving town we would see pelicans?
There were four hanging out on a sandbar near Yankee Jim canyon and a bunch
more on the Yellowstone river as we traveled east on I-90. The much maligned I-90 was clear and
dry for our travel, which is good 'cause it had been closed due to flooding
east of Billings. We could see where the problem had been, but all was good
now.
When we pulled into the KOA at Sheridan, Wyoming, the weather was a whole
lot warmer than it had been in Yellowstone. We had fleece and sweats on and
were way too warm. Ahhh, so refreshing! Heat and sunshine! The couple next
to us said it had rained there for four straight days. Guess we timed it
perfectly, huh? ;=)
We spent the night at the KOA and vowed not to stay there again. Noisy!
We had been spoiled by the dead quiet at Rocky Mountain RV park in Gardiner. Back to reality!

The northwest corner of Wyoming was beautiful. From all the rain came
green rolling hills. The Bighorn mountains were snow capped and stood out
stunningly against a bright blue sky. Antelope were literally everywhere! We
couldn't drive more than a mile or two without seeing herds of them.
Sometimes there were single does hanging out by themselves. Were they
getting ready to have their fawns, we wondered? Cow elk will do that to have
their calves. We didn't see any antelope fawns the whole trip, though. They
must be waiting 'til it warms up more.
We had forgotten how pretty this area was. Maybe we'll have to plan a
trip to Wyoming and check it all out. There's a museum in Cody for Wild Bill
Cody that is supposed to be wonderful. We could build a trip around
exploring that part of Wyoming ... one day. So much to see and so
little time.
It was about 80 degrees when we rolled into Cheyenne. Awesome!
Shorts and tank tops! Whatta concept!
